I have to be honest... at the beginning I didn't like it much and thought: "This movie..?" But everything we did in class I discovered many interesting things. What I really liked about this movie is the final message.
The film begins with a quote from Alice in Wonderland: "The question: how does a girl who jumps into a rabbit hole, plummeting into chaos, come out unchanged? The answer: she doesn't" . I wondered, why this quote to start? I think during the whole film, Stacy is chasing a life she had prepared for all her life but yet is chaotic, especially after she discovers the story of Derek's ex-girlfriends, she needs to finds out more about them maybe because she needs to end up where she really belongs.
In one of the final scenes, at the "talk show", Barbara says, "You got what you want: your life back" . Maybe this was what she needed to change many attitudes in her life. After that episode Stacy grows-up and realizes that she can't plan everything in her life. ( "Let the river run" – “Life happens when you're busy making other plans” - J. Lennon )
I'm sure we write our own destiny, we make our own choices, therefore we find things which helps to build our lives. But we can't control those things and.. no one can predict where are we end upin the end . To me this final message of the movie was powerful
Well, first of all I have to say that my opinion might not be as "deep" or interesting as the other ones because I didn't watch the entire movie.. just the beginning and the last part when Stacy is in the Top Show. To be honest, I thought this movie was sort of lame. Nonetheless, there were some interesting things that stood out. Stacy thinks to much, and makes the audience (us) ponder about what she says. The message of this movie, (from my standpoint) is that you do not have to think too much about what your life is gonna be, or how you are gonna be able to handle things, and get all overwhelmed by that. But, please, do not misunderstand what I'm saying, you do have to think about stuff, but not think it over and over and over again, in some way, you should just let things happen, if you know what I mean. Besides that, I don't think the movie was THAT cool, or enthralling, it was just another american chick-flick with a lame script.. I'm sorry if I'm being too foward, it's just what I think lol. Alright, you guys take care and enjoy lifeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeejhefdhggsjgs
In my opinion, this was a good movie. Maybe when you see it at first, you may think that is a love-silly movie, but this one took common things and gave them a touch of drama and thruth. It was not a love movie, a typical one, and most of all, it didnt had a happy ending although i was hoping for. It makes you think "¿what would i do in her place?" But...Even though we all know that privacy is something really important...its very hard not to feel tempted when the situation dares you!! I've loved the song, and I think that is, like yani said, an interesting movie and the perfect one to talk about privacy and really make you think about that.
From my point of view, I like the movie. I started classes one week later, so I had to rent it. At first I couldn’t find it. I had to look for it in many shops. After that I watched the film and I really enjoy it. It is not the typical romantic movie with a happy ending; that you watch and then forgot. This movie is interesting and has something that makes us think. “If I where there, in her place, what would I do?” I am sure that everybody though about this question. At first I answered, “I will not do the same as she did”..but there, with a lot of thing that tempt you, including you’re friends, I think I would doubt. Apart from this, I thought about planning our life. In opinion, this is something that we don’t have to do; we make our life with every decision. To be honest, I like the message that the movie gave us.
Hello everybody. I didn’t like the movie artistically speaking, so that it’s clear to me that I never would rent this kind of movies by myself (never says never…). But I think that it was a very good movie to achieve the purpose of this course: to master our English, through the comprehension, analysis and explanation of the subject, main characters and messages included in the film. I really like this way to study english because you have to deal with real language, this one that english native speakers use in their daily life. I enjoyed the discussions in class, and even if it’s sometimes hard to us (to me..) to express fluently an idea in English, it’s a good exercise to develop our skills and abilities. On the other hand I think that the subject of the movie is very interesting: privacy. It help us to think about our privacy and how, sometimes, society push us into scene to show our secrets or weakness…
For me, this is not the kind of films that I would choose to see, but anyway it was fine. The best thing in this movie is that you have no idea how it's going to end. And in fact, the ending of the film was really good, because its not about getting the guy or living togheter the rest of their life... Its about taking charge of your life and moving on... looking for your own destiny. What I didn’t like? Is not a particularly exciting film and it’s a little slow in parts but anyway I had a laugh at some scenes.
About the film Little Black Book I like and appreciate in value the enthusiasm of Stacy for her work and for her life in spite of what she suffered. I also like the way Bob looks and seems to understand everything that we feel he almost speaks. I feel quite strongly about Derek´s behaviour (the manager of Red Devils team) that he doesn´t speak with Stacy about his girlfriends, specially his relationship with Joyce. He always thinks only in himself, he is selfish, he hides information about his personality. At the beginnig of the film he is kind and seems honest but at the end he isn´t so much generous. What makes me feel angrier is the betrayal of Barb that hasn´t got any barrier to make her friend sink so as to climb to higher positions in her work. she isn´t an ethical person. Anyway, the way chosen by Stacy for solving her problem isn´t the best one. She lies to the girls (Lulu, Dr Keyes, Joyce) everytime. Regards from Ana
Little black book isn´t that kind of movies that I cloud get in a store or watch at the cinema, but it´s a funny comedy and we can think about the messages it tried to gave us and laugh and emotion in a lot of scenes. It´s a typical American movie –I think they have too much recipes- dedicated to teenagers and girls, although I liked that it maximizes topics like the way that people manage in “talk shows” and the consequences of jealous. It became interesting with an unexpected situation that changes the course of the movie and an unusual end that isn´t the happiest but is full of hope and joy
I watched the movie before we watch in class and the first time I thought "is just another american movie".But I didn´t realize the message of the film and I really liked the topic of this unit - privacy- and the things that this movie makes you think about how we living our lifes. I liked the ending because how Denise says it wasn´t the happy ending of all the romantics movies. And on the other hand I don´t like at all the character of Derek, it was boring! XOXO Cyntia
Hell is empty.... All the devils are here The Tempest – Shakespeare.
In my opinion, the phrase refers to the fact that evil is somehow present everywhere, not only in hell.
There are no absolutely good or bad people. All of us, inside us, have good and bad aspects.
This happened to Stacy, who at first acts as a good person and then she discovers aspects of his interior unknown. These bad aspects took her to commit evil acts of which she later regret.
Stacy learns to decide what kind of person she wants to be. From this lesson she grows up.
We all may say it's just "another american movie". In fact, many things leave no doubt about it, but its theme is different. It's resumed in the title of Carly Simon's song "Let The River Flow"(noticing that the river is life and we must let it free and bla bla bla). The message is shown in the american way, to reach american youth. With all that, we got the technology issue. In these days, a suspicious blonde girlfriend can dismantle his boyfriend's privacy by snooping on his Blackberry (or whatever is called that thing that connects to internet even in the middle of the desert). And we got the trite characters, betrayal, accusations, denial, silly jokes, Lewis Carroll quotes and a final thought: "Don't trust on your suspicious blonde girflriend". Oh, I forgot about Carly Simon. Anyway, to cut a long story short, we all may say it's just "another american movie".
I agree that it isn´t a film that I would rent to watch in my house or to go to the cinema, but it is a funny comedy. In my opnion, the really interesting of the movie is the change of Stacy`s personality. At the beginning, she is inocent, seems a teenager and try to plan everything. She wants to have everything in control, without space to surprise or improvisation. But later she realized that what really matters is that things and life will develop by themselves. For me is also interesting to find out that every tv programme is a show, with each movement totally planned trying to have high impact. Finnaly, my suggestion is that you can´t know about averithing. Perhaps some secrets should remain secret and yo have to know what to do with the information you have.
At the beggining I didnt like so much the movie, it was funny but I thought that was the tipical romantic comedy. Nevertheless, towards the end of the film I changed my mind, I liked how it finished unless it wasnt a happy ending, because it was an end related to what happens in real life. Stacy got what she deserved, besides she didnt had bad intentions, she only wanted to know the truth about the past relations of her boyfriend. She was influenced by Barbara, who pretended to be her friend and knowed how to managed the situation to get favoured, the way she manipulated Stacy´s feelings was very cruel and selfish. I think that Stacy was an inocent girl that never pretended to cause all that trouble involving so many people, but she started investigating Derek´s past and then she felt tempted to continue looking through his “little black book”, so when she realized what she had done it was too late to solve all her lies. In my opinion, Derek didnt love Stacy as much as she loved him, he used her and hided things that she might had known, for the simple reason that she was his girlfriend! The worst mistake was that Stacy acted following her feelings and the bad advice that Barbara gave her, she didnt think clearly what she was doing and the consequences that it would take, if she had acted more coldly, she would have gotten better results, or maybe Derek wouldnt have noticed what she had done... but well, we dont know how we will react until we are in that situation. After all, it was good that they broke up, its better for Stacy to be alone than her boyfriend keep on lying on her face.
honestly, I've seen it a couple of times before at home and I really like this kind of movies. The truth is that when I saw it alone in my house, i couldnt see part of the things that we've actually seen in class. I think it was really intertesting to analyse every sigle reaction from her and knowing that way, how all this reactions has some important role in reality. Also, investigating in her problems and her life we can take a look to ourselves and know that way, that sometimes we make exactly the same mistakes that she made or that we believe in the same things that she does. Although the end of the movie, wich was a little bit unhappy, I think that the lesson that it can give us to take for our life is important and it has to be considered in many times, especially if we're feeling jealousy or insecure in our own beliefs.
"The little black book" seems to be a movie to waste time but it isn't true. It's so closer to our lives that we can identify ourselves with some of their characters. Who didn't have the temptation to spy the our partner's mobile phone? Or perhaps.... of a friend? Or their e-mail? Or to read a letter indiscreetly (when we still fought with our calligraphy)? Or perhaps...like me (that I never had that intention and although I had it, I would repress it immediately... principles not lack of curiosity), it wasn't spy's victim? More words... less words... one side or the other one... all of us can get learnings. Although at the end, what is worth is the own experience. Advice: if you spy... be careful... you can find out something wrong.
At the beginning I didn´t know what to expect about that movie. I think I had watched it, but I wasn´t sure. Often it happens to me, to start watching a movie at the end, and I only can see the final moments. It had happened to me with this movie. So I already had watched the end, with Carly Simons, and Stacy getting the job. But I hadn´t understood the plot. So, I was happy to have the chance to see it again, enterely. What I liked the most, about the movie, wasn´t the movie itself. I really liked pritty much the activity that we did during the classes. Trying to analize and see right trough all the aspects and connecting all of them with different knowldgements. Because, I´m not used to stop and think about the films that I watch. I just enjoy them, and I never look for all the details. I don´t get into the characters. But this time I feel a special connection with Stacy, I try to put myself in her place. In my opinion it´s an interesting thing to do, because it opens your mind. Now I pay more attention when I watch a movie, because all the little things, like the songs, the phrases that characters says during the first moments, in the middle, all that stuff is really important. And it can turn another ordinary american movie, into something special.
Actually I have to recognize that I have a prejudice against this genre of movies. I usually don't watch romantics comedies or in any case I don't take them seriously. However everybody in the classroom, including me, were in the obligation of trying of analyze the film the best we could and I discovered that it wasn't so superficial. It contain some intersting methaphores about issues like the knowlege is a powerful tool but also it brings responsability and can be a door to the sadness, because many times people live better if they ignore certain things. It's a difficult choice to decide between the pain in the freedom or the hapiness in the ignorance...
I think it was a good movie, not a tipical romantics film, and maybe i would rent in video shop. And talking about the main topic, wich is the privacy, when Stacy had been tempted, i feel nowadays it is current because almost people have a little distrust about the partner and is easy to ivestigate, and sometimes is difficult not to do it. Sole!
Jesica said... In my opinion it was a very good movie. I liked so much this story because talk about love, privacy, secrets, personal insegurety, jealous. I think that the movie can give us a lesson of life.
I didn’t have a clue about what was the movie about because I miss the beginning to be absent for 2 classes! Anyway…It was quite interesting at the first time and even more when I could see it at home carefully. I discovered that I was SO reflected in the way that Stacy finds out that the best way of growing up was losing some things by learning other ones. Life doesn’t always goes the way we wanted to be, But is amazing how we always find the way to turned out “The Worst thing that could happened to me” in “The Best Thing that opened my eyes to the World”. We cannot predict every move we gonna do in life, But we sure could stop planning everything and Just...LET IT BE! I’m a faithful believer that The best things in life are All those that we didn’t plane. The Love of your life is gonna be Just in front of You when you don’t be attempting at it. The Best Move in you career is gonna be Just when you relax and don’t be so worried about it. If you are self confident there’s anything you couldn’t Do! The Best Thing that life could teach us is that we can’t earn anything if we never Lose! You’ll never could understand, you’ll never get the taste of your goals reached if you never resign other things, if you don’t fight for it, if you don’t choose between…Even so if it doesn’t Hurt!
If the Girl Never jump into the Rabbit hole and pass through chaos once in a life time there’s no way to change and grow up!
I know it because I’ve been that Girl To! XD
So, I think that wasn’t the movie at all that attracted me. Was the feeling of “Yeah…I’ve been trough that Too Once! And Yeah…It was Okay. I’m Just Fine” I don’t plane anymore “The thing That should Be”. I Just Live My day. I Don't care If I have to lose to Win some times. We all end up where we belong just if we can find the certain way to learn between changes. That’s the whole happy ending that we should be expecting for…
"Life happens when you're busy making other plans."
Jesica said..... I think that it is a very good movie, because it show topics about love, privacy, secrets, honesty. In my opinion "little black book give us a leasson about the privacy´s respect. I like so much the movie.
Hi, everybody ...I'm anxiously waiting for your comments... take your time, but be sure you send them before thursday evening ! Cecily ... Your teacher :) :) :)
Hello Ceci, yes, we are going back than others courses. In a first time the film looks like comedy but I think, at last, the film touch a very important topic about privacy and a breach of privacy and consequences about it. bye, see you tomorrow
I liked the movie, however I found it difficult to follow the story after so many weeks!
It was a funny movie and shows the importance of being honest and respect the privacy of everyone.
About Stacy, I think that if she hadn't followed Barb's advise of spying Dereck, she wouldn't have got inside that terrible mess at the end of the movie.
About Dereck, I think he's just another common man! He has no guilty for haven't told Stacy about his past! If we men want to keep something secret, women should respect our desition!
About Little Black Books, I have one, and now I'm aware about the potential damage it may cause me if it falls on the wrong person's hands! So, I'll erase my most delicate information from it. And secure it with a password :P
Thanks for this space! José Martín (Josh) -->Fridays' group
I had already watched “Little black book” one or two years ago and I thought it was another romantic comedy, but the girl didn't get the guy in the end, well that was a little frustrating for me. However, watching the movie for second time I found more interest things and I really get the message of the film: people in general tend to plan all their life but they can´t be sure of the people they are going to meet and how they influence their life, like John Lennon said "Life happens when you're busy making other plans". Maybe this movie doesn’t have too many jokes or memorable performance instead of that it shows the chaotic life of a girl who is trying to discover who she is and what she wants. Something that everybody look for.
At first I didn't like so much, but when I watched complety I realized that was a very interesting topic and a funny movie. the best, for me, were the phrases like "life happens when you're busy making other plans.", "luck is when preparation meets oportunity" etc...and brittany murphy's performance was really funny. I think it's important consider this topic -privacy- because nowadays, the privacyis "desapearing" of our life
I have to say that I really enjoyed the movie. Perhaps it is not a great movie with a great production. It is a simple movie but it shows us interesting issues of our life in a funny way, specially when exposing the working and relationship world and how far we dare to go to get what we want in those aspects and all the damage we can cause. For example it took only a moment for Stacey to create a bunch of lies, hurting everyone she cares about just to get to the bottom of her boyfriend past romantic affairs.
In addition, it makes me thinks about privacy….of course that privacy is very important for our life because it is what lets us have our intimacy; we need secrets, but what kind of things do we keep to ourselves and hide to others? Why? This is what Derek's character I think wants to shows..also Barb's prhase "omission is betrayal"...
Finally, I like the ending despite I’m a fan of happy endings -of this type of movies-…but I think it was fantastic how Stacey managed to get through the chaos she said she was into. The whole experience helped her find the courage she needed to go and pursue her dreams…and it seems that she finally succeeded… so, maybe after all it worth it!

Hello EveryOne! I’m Juliet
Was the feeling of
“Yeah…I’ve been trough that Too Once! And Yeah…It was Okay. I’m Just Fine”
I don’t plane anymore “The thing That should Be”. I Just Live My day. I Don't care If I have to lose to Win some times.
We all end up where we belong just if we can find the certain way to learn between changes. That’s the whole happy ending that we should be expecting for…
"Life happens when you're busy making other plans."

Melisa.
